Living and actualising your life purpose takes a foundation of essential resources: time, energy, space, and also financial stability. When these are scarce, it can feel almost impossible to express your gifts fully.
1. Time – The Invisible Constraint
Time is one of the most fundamental resources. Without dedicated moments to reflect, explore, and act, your purpose can remain an abstract idea rather than an embodied reality. The modern world often demands relentless productivity. It leaves with little room for deep contemplation and intentional growth. Sometimes, living your purpose isn’t about finding more time but redefining your priorities. Small moments of alignment throughout the day will carry meaning.
2. Energy – The vital life force
Physical, emotional, and mental energy are necessary for movement and expression. If exhaustion, stress, or burnout dominate your life, your ability to engage with your purpose diminishes. Physical depletion limits action, emotional depletion weakens enthusiasm, and mental fatigue reduces clarity. Replenishing energy through self-care, boundaries, and alignment with the values etched deep within your soul, ensures you have the vitality to sustain your purpose.
3. Space – The breathing room to grow
Space can be both external and internal, that is, the space you make for your inner life and outer life. A chaotic, cluttered environment, whether physically, mentally or emotionally, can crowd out opportunities for meaningful self-exploration. Internally, you need enough mental space to process thoughts, engage with your intuition, and deepen self-awareness. Without space to reflect and integrate, your purpose can feel distant or inaccessible. Creating intentional moments of solitude, reflection, and organisation generates the conditions you need for personal expansion.
4. Money – The practical foundation
Financial stability plays an undeniable role in making your purpose sustainable. If survival is uncertain, higher aspirations can feel out of reach. Stress about money can overshadow passion, which in turn, lead to trade-offs between meaning and practicality. While purpose isn’t solely tied to wealth, financial security can provide you with the freedom to explore and share your gifts without constant worry. Shifting financial perspectives, such as integrating purpose into your work or aligning money with the values deep within your soul can help bridge the gap between necessity and fulfillment.
Here’s how to balance the equation
Without these four core resources, your ability to give, share, and contribute meaningfully is limited. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so by extension, you can’t express your purpose if you’re depleted. But you integrate it gradually. It’s about finding ways to build time, energy, space, and financial stability so they support, rather than hinder, your growth.
The barriers to living your life purpose are time, energy, space and money. If you don’t have enough time, or you lack physical, emotional or mental energy, or you don’t have the space in your life for finding and living your purpose, or you don’t have enough money for your own survival, then you will not have enough of these resources to give or share.
