A Soul-Focused Role

It’s too easy to reject your current role in favour of a soul-filled job. You hear about people chucking in their corporate jobs to start a business teaching yoga, and not always with great success. It seems to be a default response. But I wonder if that’s the result of thinking that it’s impossible to fight and win over the culture of your organisation so your only option is to change your career, or start your own business? Rather than quitting, it could be an opportunity to incorporate soulful elements into your current role.

Do you really need to throw the baby out with the bath water? The good news is that you don’t always need to leave your current role to experience a soul-filled work. Sometimes, yes, you need to leave, but in this current economic climate, it’s worth experimenting with ways to fulfil your soul in your current role.

A soul-focused role is one that aligns with a your deepest values, passions, and sense of purpose. It involves work that provides you with more than financial stability. It also allows you to express your authentic self, make a meaningful impact, and cultivate a sense of fulfilment and connection.

Incorporate your soul into your current role. Adding soul involves infusing your everyday tasks and interactions with authenticity, empathy, and a genuine concern for the well-being and growth of everyone.
Incorporate your soul into your current role.

Adding soul to your role involves infusing your everyday tasks and interactions with authenticity, empathy, and a genuine concern for the well-being and growth of everyone at work. There are at least seven ways you can add soul to your current role:

  1. Provide Authentic Leadership
  2. Develop Empathic Communication
  3. Identify Purpose-Driven Vision
  4. Cultivate Growth and Development
  5. Promote Work-Life Balance
  6. Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion
  7. Make a Positive Impact

Here they are in detail:

Provide Authentic Leadership

A soul-focused role embodies authenticity, transparency, and integrity. You are true to your values. This demonstrates trustworthiness and builds respect within the organisation.

Develop Empathetic Communication

Adding soul to your role means communicating with empathy, active listening, and compassion. Being soul-focused means taking the time to understand the perspectives and emotions of others in the team, and contributing to a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Identify Purpose-Driven Vision

Being soul-focused means infusing your role with a sense of purpose and meaning beyond, for example, achieving business objectives. You’ve identified your personal values and found several matches between your values and those of the organisation. You’ve found that some of your key values align with the vision and mission of the organisation.

Cultivate Growth and Development

Adding soul to your role involves prioritising your personal and professional growth. Being soul-focused means not only seeking opportunities for your own learning, skill development, and career advancement. You inspire and empower others to reach their full potential.

Promote Work-Life Balance

Being soul-focused means recognising the importance of work-life balance. You aim for harmony between your professional and personal life. You prioritise self-care, stress management, and time for relaxation and rejuvenation and you encourage others to do the same.

Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion

Adding soul to your role means embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive workplace culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

Make a Positive Impact

Being soul-focused, you strive to make a positive impact by taking advantage of opportunities to give back, contributing to social causes, and creating a legacy of soul inspired change.

Incorporating soulful elements into your role creates a work environment that nurtures your spirit, promotes everyone’s personal and collective growth, and enables you (and the organisation) to thrive. Before you quit, think about how you can add soul to your role.
