The Multi-Purpose Nature of Change

Why is change so hard? The short answer is that change is multifaceted. Could be change for better. Could be worse.

The prospect of change doesn’t need to be as uncertain as you might be thinking right now.

There are two types of change. There’s deliberate change and unexpected change. Change will teach you that you can’t control everything, but you can harness your power and be better prepared for both types of change.

Harness Your Power

To manage both types of change, you’ll need to harness your power by tapping into (you guessed it) archetypes. This time it’s the Shapeshifter.

One facet of change is to master the art of adapting to changing circumstances. For example, in Norse mythology, Odin was known to change his shape. He would go into a trance and send out his spirit to take on the form of another person or an animal.

You can learn how to draw on the characteristics of archetypes here.

Plan for Your Future

There’s a truism in business that says, if you don’t have a plan then you’re planning to fail. The same can be applied to your personal circumstances. You can use a plan to make deliberate changes to your life.

The purpose of change is to inspire you, or force you, to generate a plan for Your Future. So you can make deliberate changes to your life. For deliberate change to work, your dissatisfaction with your old way of doing things needs to outweigh the new. You need to feel confident that what you’re aiming for will be better than what you had. You could use the SMART model to set short, medium and long term goals to manifest what you want out of your life. You can read about SMART here.

If you don’t take the reins of your life into your own hands then someone else, or something else will do it for you.

If you don’t take the reins of your life into your own hands then someone else, or something else will do it for you.

While you need a plan to manage deliberate change, you will also need to know there’s a clear path to get there.

Follow a Reliable Map

If you’ve ever driven through unknown territory to your destination, you’ve most likely used a satellite navigation system to get there. You located your position. You followed a reliable map to guide you forward. If you don’t have a reliable map to locate where you are and where you’re going, you’re at risk of getting lost in unfamiliar and uncertain territory,

Yet another purpose of change is to locate your metaphysical position and learn how to navigate your way through unexpected changes with greater clarity and ease. To manage and potentially make the most of unexpected change you need a reliable map of The Future such as the Hero’s Journey model. You can read about that here.

Change is difficult but you don’t need to make it worse. Harness your power. Draw on the qualities of the Shapeshifter archetype. Manage deliberate change by planning for Your Future. Manage unexpected change by following a reliable map to guide you into The Future.
