Your potential is waiting for you. And yes, you can use archetypes to identify and make the most it. Revealing your potential begins after you identify your personal archetypes. There are six steps:

  1. Identify the archetype.
  2. Reflect on goals.
  3. Immerse yourself in the best of the archetype (while acknowledging the worst).
  4. Adopt the archetypal mindset.
  5. Implement archetype-driven actions.
  6. Monitor progress and reflect.

Step 1: Identify Personal Archetypes

  • Start by exploring different archetypes to find those that you can say you’ve always been.
  • Identify the roles you’ve always played throughout your life to date by choosing 8 archetypes from the table above to answer this question. You might also like to seek objective feedback from trusted friends and family to make your decisions (or contact me for assistance).
  • Combine your 8 archetypes with the four archetypes shared by everyone: The Child, Victim, Prostitute and Saboteur. Now you have your 12 personal archetypes.

Step 2: Reflect on Your Goals and Aspirations

Think about what you want to achieve and the qualities you need to develop to reach your goals. Check for a match of these qualities with your personality archetypes. For example, if you want to improve your physical fitness, the Athlete archetype might be an obvious choice. But. If the athlete is not one of your personal archetypes, then which one of your archetypes contains the qualities you need to achieve this goal? The qualities are there in one of your personal archetypes, but you will need to dig deeper to locate them.

Step 3: Immerse Yourself in the Best of the Archetype

Embrace the best qualities associated with the archetype and at the same time, be conscious of the worst aspects of the archetype. Study the archetype to learn more about the characteristics, behaviours, and the mindsets associated with your chosen archetype. Read biographies, myths and legends, watch movies, and observe people who embody the traits of the archetype. For the Athlete archetype, you might study the routines, diets, and training regimens of professional athletes.

Step 4: Adopt the Archetypal Mindset

Adopt the mindset and behaviors of your archetype. This means visualising yourself thinking and behaving like the archetype. Set goals that align with the archetype’s traits and adopt habits and routines that reflect the best of the archetype’s behaviours.

Step 5: Implement Archetype-Driven Actions

Begin incorporating the archetype’s qualities into your daily life.

  • Create a structured plan based on the archetype’s behaviours.
  • Set small, incremental goals to develop the traits of the archetype.
  • Seek feedback and adjust your actions to better align with the better qualities of the archetype.

Step 6: Monitor Progress and Reflect

Regularly assess your progress and reflect on how embodying the best of the archetype is helping you achieve your goals. Adjust your approach as you go to stay aligned with the best of the archetype’s characteristics. Here’s an example using the Athlete Archetype to discover you hidden potential:

  1. Identify the Archetype: You choose the Athlete archetype to improve physical fitness and health.
  2. Reflect on Goals: Your goal is to increase your stamina and strength.
  3. Immerse Yourself in the Best of the Archetype. First, you read about the negative characteristics of famous athletes, the mistakes they’ve made, and the obstacles and challenges they’ve failed to overcome. You need to be aware of their failures, their bad behaviours. You need to know them at their worst, so you don’t make the same mistakes. Then you examine their successes, their training routines, dietary habits, and the challenges they’ve overcome.
  4. Adopt the Archetypal Mindset: You start seeing yourself as an athlete, setting goals like running a marathon or lifting certain weights.
  5. Implement Archetype-Driven Actions: You create a workout schedule, start eating a balanced diet, and track your fitness progress.
  6. Monitor Progress and Reflect: You regularly assess your fitness levels, adjust your routines, and celebrate milestones.
