Sacred Lover, Servant and Healer

The purpose of life is a combination of your personal quest for fulfillment and the contribution it makes to a broader sense of purpose within humanity.

You could say that broadly speaking, based on common themes in ethics, spiritual philosophies and religions, the purpose of life is to love, serve, and heal. How you do it is your life’s purpose. Your life purpose is yours to determine.

The problem is, we forget about the power of the shadow. This is dangerous. The shadow of loving, serving and healing, that is, the opposite, is to hate, punish and harm.

There but for the grace of the gods go I

Your pet hates, those you’re holding on to, or carrying, nursing, and therefore nurturing, are the clues to your darkest shadow. I’m far from perfect here, but here’s the thing. If you don’t acknowledge and accept your pet hates as a part of your potential, they will make you sick. You don’t need to let it go this far.

Where in your body are you housing your pet hates? Neck, back, hips, shoulders, arms or hands? In your head? Breast or reproductive organs? You get the idea. You can ignore your pet hates, but they will thrive on your ignorance.

And worse, your unacknowledged pet hates contribute to humanity’s pool of pet hates, aka, the collective shadow, which by the way is actually a mix of dark and light, and good, bad and ugly stuff. In this case, it’s dark, bad and ugly. Your choice. Your responsibility. Your conscience. Your unfinished business. Or not.

Broadly speaking, you could say that the purpose of life is to love, serve and heal.
The purpose of life is not about what you do, but why you do it.

There’s one way to do your part.

Journal with the Sacred Lover archetype, the Servant archetype and the Healer archetype.

  1. What do you hate about yourself? How do you punish yourself? How do you harm yourself?
  2. What do you hate about others? How do you punish others? How do you harm others?
  3. What do others hate about you? How do others punish you? How do others harm you?
  4. What does sacred love mean to you?
  5. If you are afraid to serve, then why?
  6. How can you love, serve and therefore heal?
  7. How can these qualities guide your life purpose and your contribution to humanity?

Everyone has the power to make the shadow darker with their ignorance. You don’t need to harbour your their pet hates. You do need to acknowledge and accept them. It’s good for you and humanity.
