An Archetypal SWOT is a tool you can use to assess each of your personal archetypes for their strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and traps.
Turn weaknesses into strengths.

This is how you can SWOT an archetype:

  1. Choose an archetype to SWOT.
  2. With a stream of consciousness mindset,
  3. Brainstorm and list 3 strengths, 3 weaknesses, 3 opportunities and 3 traps.
  4. Then ask, how can I take advantage of this archetype’s strengths to overcome their weaknesses? How can I take advantage of the opportunities so I can avoid falling into the traps?

Here’s what that might look like. Let’s do an Archetypal SWOT on the Saboteur archetype:

Strengths

  • Self Awareness. Finding out what not to do. Learning to recognise areas of self-sabotage.
  • Recognising self-destructive patterns makes room for proactive measures.
  • Catalyst for change, transformation and growth.

Weaknesses

  • Tendencies toward self-sabotage can hinder progress and personal development.
  • Insecurity. Feeling unworthy or inadequate.
  • Resistant or reluctant to change when necessary. Difficulty breaking free from destructive habits or thought patterns.

Opportunities

  • Self-improvement strategies. Addressing and resolving self-sabotaging behaviour leads to personal growth.
  • Fail forward. Turn weaknesses into strengths. Learning from failure and past mistakes will build resilience and strength.
  • Build self-esteem. Overcoming self-sabotage fosters confidence and self-worth.

Traps

  • Repeating destructive patterns. This leads to continued setbacks and hindered progress.
  • Refusing to seek support or a lack of adequate guidance or resources to address self-sabotaging tendencies.
  • Isolation. Struggling alone with self-sabotage can lead to withdrawal or feeling disconnected from others.

To take advantage of this archetype’s strengths and to overcome its weaknesses, as well as leverage opportunities to avoid falling into the Saboteur’s traps, here’s how you might do this:
