Balance Your Personal Energy Budget

You’re feeling more than out of sorts. On a scale of one to ten, you’re maxing out at twenty. You’ve been journaling, meditating, relaxing, eating well, walking, yoga, strength training. You’ve applied every self care strategy you can to think of to feel better, been in and out of therapy, but it’s not making a difference. You’ve worked too hard, done too much, and pushed yourself too far, for too long.

And now you’re at a standstill.

When you’ve been forced into a standstill, that’s when you know you need to do your energy work.
If you’re forced into a standstill then it’s time to do your energy work.

When you’re feeling like this, that’s when you know you need to do your energy work. Your personal energy budget is in debt. You need to clear the debt and bring your personal energy budget back into balance.

This is how I do it.

  • Sit quietly.
  • Notice how you’re feeling,
  • Name the feeling,
  • Sit with the feeling,
  • Do your energy work.

How? Retrieve your power.

Call back the energy you’ve sent on negative or destructive missions. For example, energy sent on a mission of anger or jealousy began as pure energy, but you’ve sent it on a negative mission, and as a result it’s warped into a negative force. You need to command your pure energy to: come back home, into my body and into present time.

It’s not that we shouldn’t feel negative emotions. Anger, jealousy, guilt and so on have their place, if the force of the emotion is used constructively. We need to feel our feelings, but we don’t need to be trapped in them, or hold onto them long term, or let them consume us, or any one else. Therefore, you might need to retrieve your energy more than once as you train your energy to stay in your body and in present time.

After calling back your energy, you will need to return all the energy that’s been sent to you on a negative or destructive mission. You are going to RTS this energy, that is, return to sender all the energy that does not belong to you. For example, if you’re on the receiving end of pure energy that’s been sent to you on a negative mission such as guilt, blame, fraud or trickery then return this energy to the sender. How?

In your mind’s eye tell the sender, with loving kindness: thanks but no thanks, you can have back your energy. It’s been sent to me on a negative/destructive mission. It’s not mine. Please respect my personal energy boundaries by sharing pure and constructive energy instead.

You might have to do this more than once. Some energies are persistent and need to be trained to adapt to your boundaries. And be aware that it’s important to send back energy with loving kindness in order to neutralise the negative energy.

Now that you’ve retrieved your energy and returned the energy to the sender, you can expect to feel better. Next, do another check in.

  • Notice the new feeling,
  • Name the feeling. For example, it might feel like a a sense of agency, clarity, confidence, satisfaction, contentment or philanthropy.
  • Sit with the feeling,
  • Absorb it as yours.

If you want more energy, or you want your personal energy to be effective, you will need to monitor your energy on a regular basis.

There are four types of energy we use to function effectively in life. Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. If just one energy is out of balance, it can have an adverse affect on your capacity to work, rest, create, relate and play.

Rate each item out of 25, where 1 is low and 25 is high:
