When they talk about following your bliss, it doesn’t mean that you should only do what brings you joy. Some things in life need to be done whether you like to do it or not.
Doing your taxes. Cleaning the toilet. Writing that paper. Traveling two hours to and then from work each day.
If you can’t say yes to doing something joyfully but it needs to be done, then work out why you’re not happy about doing the task.
Or better still, change your mind set. Don’t think about it. Put your emotions to the side for a moment and just do it. Note in the margin: this is one way to overcome procrastination. Shelve your emotions. Temporarily. You don’t need to overthink it right now, unless you want to create emotional havoc.
Take the road less familiar next time you need to do something you don’t like.
If the task needs to be done then you may as well do it with joy. Doing it joyfully will enrich your energy. Doing it miserably will deplete you.
You can be enriched or miserable. You can do it the easy way or the hard way. It’s your choice.
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Viktor Frankl.
You have the power to make it a miserable experience or make it a joy. Self created sorrow or self created bliss. It’s up to you.
