Toxic Positivity Distorts Your Intuition

Positivity can be made toxic by using too much of it. Toxic positivity can distort your ability to hear your intuition.

Toxic positivity is not a good habit. It makes you think a situation is ok when it’s not. It lulls you into a false sense of security. It’s the one of the inner critic’s secret weapons.

Most people tend to favour positivity over being negative, but there’s an upside to negativity.

If you don’t have a strategy for managing the worst case scenario in a new idea for a project, then you’ll find yourself warding off negativity from others. You might think they’re just jealous or out to get you, and maybe you’re right. But there’s more to it than that. And they may not even know it.

If someone throws some negativity your way, then the first thing you need to do is own your share of it in the situation.

Everyone you meet is your mirror. If you’re met with negativity then you need to investigate it’s message. What is it trying to tell you?

If someone throws some negativity your way, then the first thing you need to do is own your share of it in the situation. Own your own projections or they will become your shadow. Make this a habit. The other person is just the messenger. Or the warning sign.

Not everyone is trying to sabotage you. They wouldn’t be so obvious about it. Look at it like this. It might not be the best way to get the message. It’s not a positive message. It’s a negative one. Either way, it’s a message. Often, and inadvertently, they’re trying to warn you that something is not right. It’s your task to find out what it is so you can fix it.

Should you be responding to their negativity by strengthening your positivity so much that it morphs into toxic positivity?

You don’t need to suffocate your intuition.

Is their negativity simply telling you to strengthen your resolve? Or is there more to it than that?

You don’t need to waste your energy on daily battles with negativity. Turn negativity into a gift. Accept the message with grace.
