Giving birth is not easy. Birthing your true self is laborious. Answering the call to be your true self is easier when you have an idea of what’s ahead.
There appears to be five stages you go through (that I’ve observed) as you birth your true self. The stages may not occur in strict order. You might skip a stage and return to it later. And stage five is not the end point. It’s another beginning. But you’ll the idea.
- The call
- The connection
- The identification
- The alignment
- The union

The Call
You respond to the call from your true self. Some people respond as a result of crisis or a series of them. There’s an easier start or a hard start to the process you go through as you respond to the call from your true self. The hard start is a well worn road. The easier start is the road less travelled.
Here’s what a hard start might look like:
You hear the call from your true self but you ignore it. Crisis after crisis occurs but you continue to resist the call. Full of turmoil, you find yourself feeling lost in the dark.
You wonder how you got into such a mess. Until one day, you’ve had enough. You can’t take it anymore. You stop resisting. You give in but you don’t give up. You respond to the call to be at one with your true self because now, it may be that your life or your sanity or both depend on it.
Meanwhile, there are some who take the easier road to respond to the call from their true self.
The easier road is where you respond to the call because you’ve heard the quiet voice of your intuition prompting you to live an authentic and meaningful life. You followed the gentle prompts before the inner voice morphed into a raging nag, and then manifested itself as sabotage.
Taking the easy way or the hard way, either way will lead you to the next step.
The Connection
This is where a connection occurs between you and your true self. The connection might take place during a meditation. Or when you’re absorbed by the majesty of nature. Or you’re in a flow, engrossed in some physical form of activity or hobby that you love to do, where you lose track of time. Or circumstances have brought you an epiphany after you finally reject an inauthentic mode of existence. Or you’ve chosen the path of double-loop learning with archetypes, and as a result, you’ve experienced an epiphany as way to connect with your true self.
The more you experience flow, or those ah-ha, epiphany moments, then the easier it is to get into your true self.
The Identification
You begin to identify as your true self because you know this part of you is larger and more powerful than any person, place or thing outside of you.
You know who you are and why you were born. You’re aware your truth. You’re getting ready to live it. You know what you’re meant to do with your life.
The Alignment
You now recognise each challenge in life as an assignment. You’ve found more meaning in life because you know what you’re here to learn. You find it easier to complete each assignment when you surrender and align your will with that of your true self. You’re getting better at living moment to moment. You’re in your truth more often than you’re out of it. The meaning of each assignment is delivered to your door on a regular basis.
The Union
And so you wake up one day to find that you’re at one with your true self.
