What’s your true self IQ? How well do you know your true self?
With a lot of talk about emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence and recently, intuitive intelligence, is it a stretch to add Authentic Self Intelligence or True Self Intelligence into the mix? Is it just a sub-category of emotional or spiritual intelligence that’s been promoted to date? Maybe, but here I go.
It’s clear that finding your flow connects you to your true self. Finding your flow pleases the senses. It satisfies your body and soul. It’s good for those who prefer a physical, sensual experience of their true self.
While connecting with your true self is one thing, what about really getting to know your true self? What about deepening your knowledge of your true self. And anyway, why would you want to get intimate with your true self?
When you deepen your relationship with yourself, it shows in your relationships with others.
You can develop and enhance your knowledge of your true self through self examination.

Self examination is an exercise for your mind. It’s a conscious, mental activity that allows you to build on your knowledge of who you are, why you are here, what you are meant to be doing with your life, where you will do it, when you will do it and how you will do it, and why you avoid doing it. Self examination increases your true self knowledge. And knowledge is power.
You need this type of power because your who, your why, what, where, when, and how are not static. They’re dynamic. Like the seasons, these things are subject to change. For example: You might think that you’ve nailed your career, or a relationship, or your life purpose…
But…
Like any wise elder, mystic or philosopher will tell you: This too will pass.
Therefore, you need to build and maintain a solid relationship with your true self.
To develop your True Self IQ, here are just a few questions for self examination:
- In what ways are you true to your true self? What do you do?
- How do you honour your true self?
- How often do you collaborate with your true self?
- In what instances do you call on your true self? Only when disaster strikes?
- How often do you think about your true self?
- How often do you think about being true to yourself but you’re not?
- How do you know when your true self is guiding you? What are the signs?
- How do you align your will with that of your true self? (Because that’s what you need to do to find your flow AND to get to know your true self better.) If you resist then why do you resist?
And from another perspective:
- Who guides you or assists you to be true to yourself?
- Who encourages and supports you to be true to yourself?
- Who inspires you to be true to yourself?
- Why do you think some people sabotage your connection to your true self?
- How do others sabotage your experience of your true self?
- Why do they block their experience of your true self?
- How has their sabotage led you to where you are now? How have you benefited from their efforts to sabotage your connection to your true self.
- How do you thank those, who seemingly by accident, pushed you into living in line with your true self?
The next question is:
How do you apply what you’ve discovered?
You could start by thanking your true self. Then forgive those who, consciously or not, brought you closer to knowing your true self.
